RT - After oweek pre-camp..
My voice is still hoarse, not from shouting but from eating sand at Sentosa. Sleep was a luxury and I slept everywhere I went. In the van, on the beach, along the walkways. Anywhere, you name it, I've probably done it. But working with the people I've grown to like hanging out with made it all good. While the times for the activities were rather tight, I think it should be fine by the time the actual camp starts.
Here are some of my oweek pre-camp MVPs, I'm being impartial here, and I'm sure whoever has been through the same would agree:
Yanwei: Ever reliable, he covers sand and covers sea (translate to hokkien). While everybody else went home, he stayed overnight to return the stuff, like the tug-of-war ropes, the sound system etc, we borrowed as well as the rented van.
May: I was very moved when she rescheduled her tuition to help the camp out and stayed up through the night to help with the retying of the tug-of-war ropes despite being rather worn out herself.
Boonheng: Great organizational skills and a wonderful logger. Working with him makes my life as a fellow logger a breeze with him holding the fort while I "NL".
Love love to the exco (Adrian, Yuanling, Desmond, Grace, Alson), the programmers (Daryl, Lysia, Febrin, Carmelita, Shuli, Jingchun, Christabel, Kaixian, Weewee, Sianghoon, Raymond), the admin team (Adeline, Alvin, Sze Hwei, Xiuting, Wanching, Daisy, Celeste, Ben), the log crew (Lamlam, Marilyn Ho, Evon, Boonheng, Yanwei, Kaijit, Yiheng) and last but not least, the dedicated helpers (Marilyn Huang, Marcus, Nikki, Ryan, Ivan, Cyan and Zikang) too.
The two things which I felt lacking though was the incorporation of the new members into the original arts camp crew and commitment. I felt bad when I saw Sean, Wanching, Xiuting, Lamlam and Marilyn Ho standing around and keeping to themselves while the rest of us were chilling within the cliques. And while personal commitments might clash with the camp and pre-camp days, I feel that it is not an excuse to be perpetually absent without even dropping by, especially if the reasons provided aren't legitimate ones. Pre-camp for the ocomm spanned 3 days. I can understand if one does not show up on the weekdays because of work, but day zero was a Sunday and I think the ocomm could have used all the help that could have been present, especially the exco.
